What is this service about?
February 24, 2022 is a day that changed the life of every Ukrainian.
The enemy with "high-precision" strikes destroys "military facilities", which have become and continue to be maternity homes, schools, kindergartens, entire residential blocks with hundreds of houses, etc. almost from the first days of the war.
Every day there are air alert notifications all over Ukraine. People are forced to spend their time in shelters, hiding from potential, and from time to time, real threats.
This service is a kind of sad rating of Ukrainian cities.
On this page, you can find out interesting facts about air alarm statistics in the Odesa region or choose any region from the list.

Questions and answers
When calculating statistics, we process data from both official and unofficial OSINT sources.
Official sources include the Telegram channel "Air Alarm". This source provides official data on air alarms at the regional level and in Kyiv. Also, in the period until 03/15/2022, channels of local authorities from different regions of Ukraine were used as official sources.
Unofficial OSINT sources include numerous local telegram channels that notify the population of threats at the local level. The main aggregator of such data is the telegram channel of the mobile application "eTryvoga", from which we receive unofficial data about air alarms in some cities, threats of Art. attacks and reports of explosions.
Also, as it has already become clear, OSINT data sources have an unofficial character, unlike official ones. And they also cover only a limited list of cities and communities (mainly in border and frontline regions). The data obtained from these sources is complementary to the official Region-level air alert data (if the "Alarms in regions and cities Official + OSINT" option is selected) and is also the primary (but unofficial) data on threats of Art. attacks and reports of explosions.
We operate with the concept of "the fact of the announcement of an alarm".
For example, if an alarm is declared in Boryspil and then 10 minutes later in the Kyiv region, we count it as two separate alarms with their start and end times.
Since alarms in specific cities can overlap with alarms announced in the entire region (as in the example above), each alarm has its own actual total duration, as well as a "net" duration (the time interval that is not included in the part of the alarm that overlaps with another alarm).
If you want to view statistics that only include the general alarms for the entire region, use the appropriate switch.
- Depending on the option selected, air alarms of different levels and from different sources are included in the statistics calculation:
- Alarms in regions + Kyiv Only official - only air alarms at the level of the region and alarms in the city of Kyiv, received only from official sources, are included in the calculation;
- Alarms in regions and cities Official + OSINT - the calculation includes air alarms at the level of the region and alarms in Kyiv, received from official sources, as well as alarms in specific cities received from unofficial OSINT sources.
- If you select the option "Alarms in regions and cities Official + OSINT", the statistics will include the intersections of time intervals of several alarms that are declared in the same region. Therefore, all indicators related to duration will include the "net" duration of the alert (i.e., the duration outside the intersection if the alert in the city overlaps with the alert in the region).
- We consider alarms that are too short (up to 1 minute) or too long (about a day or more) to be false data and do not include them in our calculations (unless they are from official sources).
- Data on alarms from 02/24/22 to 03/15/22 was collected automatically or semi-automatically from various sources and adjusted manually, so this part of the data may contain certain inaccuracies or discrepancies with data in other similar services
- Data that is collected automatically, but may potentially have inaccuracies, is not used in statistics until it has been checked manually
- The statistics on reported explosions are based on unofficial data and are indicative.
- The calculation relies on media notifications of explosions. Therefore in this statistics, we operate with the term "reports of explosions" and not directly with the "explosions". One message can refer to several explosions that the settlement residents could hear if these explosions occurred simultaneously in a short period. In any case, the statistics will record one report of explosions, not, for example, two
- We take into account media reports of explosions during air raids. These include reports of explosions heard or seen by residents of a settlement as a result of missiles, air defence or other military activities.
- The explosion reports we are processing may contain information about the particular location where it occurred, or it will be a generalized location in the form of an entire area
Starting from 18.03.2024, we have set the option "Alarms in regions + Kyiv Official only" as the default option. Thus, the statistics now do not include air alarms at the level of individual cities and communities received from OSINT sources by default.
Previously, the default option was "Alarms in regions and cities Official + OSINT", which includes air alarms at the level of individual cities and communities in the calculation of statistics. This option has not disappeared and you can still enable it if necessary.
To calculate our statistics, we only use data from airborne alerts that have a start and end, not including data from alerts related to other types of threats.
Also, as an additional option, we provide a statistics option that includes data on alarms announced not only throughout the region, but also those announced in individual cities and communities of the region.
Additional information on the calculation method can be found in the section "How are statistics calculated?"
